Samuel Prowse Warren was born in Montreal on Feb. 18, 1841, the son of organ builder Samuel Russell Warren (1809-1882). Samuel Russell Warren was born in Tiverton, Rhode Island, on March 29, 1809, and later worked as an organ builder for Thomas Appleton in Boston. He was the brother of Thomas D. Warren. By 1836, he was working in Montréal, and in 1879, formed a partnership with two sons: Samuel Prowse Warren and Charles Sumner Warren, as S.R. Warren & Sons.
